About Our Boat Club

​

The Blue Mountains Dragon Boat Club Inc. (aka Mountain Dragons) was born from the concept of holding a Dragon Boat Festival in the mountains, an idea originally put forward by our Patron, the Rotary Club of Katoomba.

 

Starting in early 2020 with a small Rotary Club project team, the Mountain Dragons quickly established their own life and identity with an independent committee taking on the task of creating a new dragon boat club.

 

By early 2021, with much appreciated support from other NSW dragon boat clubs, the new club had completed the essential administrative requirements, raised funds and purchased most of the basic equipment needed (boat, roadworthy trailer, paddles, etc.). Through local PR efforts, over 80 expressions of interest had been received, offering good prospects for an adequate initial membership to start the club operationally from 1 July 2021. In May, DBNSW approved affiliation as a part of the Western Region in NSW.

 

The aim of the Mountain Dragons is to provide fun, fitness and friendship for its members and to participate in the wider dragon boat community, locally, nationally and in due course, internationally.
